Checklist, and key elements to include in my music video.

How my music video will attract the ideal audience:
  • My music video is going to include features and elements similar to those found in other protest songs. For example, in order to keep the audience engaged throughout, I will include themes and ideas that they are aware of. In this case, global warming is the issue that the artist Radiohead for the song 'Idioteque' is protesting about.
  • I will include characters that my audience can connect with and identify with. One way that I can do this, is by including characters of the same age demographic (16-25), as the audience. In turn, this will make the video more personal, and easy for the audience to feel connected to in a personal way, and relate to.
  • It needs to be up to date in terms of social issues, and needs to include problems that are relevant in 2020, as these are the issues that the audience watching the video will feel passionate about. Global warming is a modern day issue, that the audience will be familiar with and will understand.
  • The genre of electronic and dance music mainly features music videos that have some black and white scenes, with mostly performance based videos, with little added effects. In turn, this helps to keep the issue of global warming more real and prevalent of the modern day.
  • Shot wise, scenes in music videos from this genre are most commonly set out with extreme long shots, and close-up shots are also frequently used to show emotion in the characters.
  • Lighting wise, it is very common in protest music videos to include low toned down, natural lighting. This also will help me to keep the video modern, reflecting the idea that global warming is a worsening modern day issue and that we need to take action.
  • In terms of costumes, they are mostly basic and plain, as the theme of the music video is considered more important, with little focus on the characters in general. This also means that the focus of my music video can be based more on the narrative.

CHECKLIST:

  • Characters that are identifiable with this ideal audience member - to allow a connection on a personal level to the video. Same age demographic.
  • A social issue that is relevant to 2020, that the audience can connect with - global warming.
  • Some black and white scenes.
  • A variety of extreme long shots - to lay out the location, and create a mood.
  • Some close-up, and extreme close-up shots - for emotion.
  • Some scenes with very low lighting - for tone, and some dull or natural lit scenes for contrast against the black and white scenes.
